The State of Tamil Nadu is situated at the Southern end of Indian peninsula. It has a long seacoast. It has a fairly good road network and better road transport systems.
MED program was implemented in Tamil Nadu in the year 1988 through Bangalore branch. Chennai branch was opened in 1988 under the leadership of Mr. RCM Pitchai, a retired Joint Chief Officer from RBI.
Chennai branch witnessed a steady growth in terms of its outreach under the supervision of Bangalore office. In view of expansion of program, a local monitoring committee consisting of Mr Mercilin Chellaiah, (a business man), Mr Arul Rayan (a retired RBI officer) and Rev Martin Alphonse was set up by the board in 1993, to speed up decisions and to provide operational directions based on the local needs. Benefiting much from the involvement of the committee members branch grew exponentially.
The branch has implemented Prison Micro Finance program at Coimbatore central prison and also micro insurance program.
Branch is equipped with MIS designed and developed by TBF's domain knowledge and day to day operations are being monitored by head office on a real time basis.
