Karnataka State is in South India, located on the western edge of the Deccan plateau, surrounded by four other States. It comprises of 27 districts and is called the Silicon Valley of India.

Micro Enterprise Development

MED programs for empowerment of poor and poverty alleviation, is being implemented since 1984 through Community Based Organizations. Initially programs were confined to the Bangalore city and its suburbs and later extended to other districts / cities and rural areas in the State. Periodical evaluation of the programs is being done to strengthen the program implementation and modifying it according to the needs of the target group.

Prison Micro finance

It was observed that when the breadwinner was in prison, the family has to struggle to make both ends meet resulting in chaotic situation of abject poverty. Children deprived of education and basic needs are most affected, leading them towards criminal activities.

In order to empower such families, Prison micro finance program was launched at the Central Jail of Bangalore in 2001. Financial assistance was provided to the spouses or parents of the inmates to start / expand micro enterprises. Our intervention provided relief to many families and our initiative was very much appreciated by the Prison authorities.

Micro Insurance

Micro Insurance was introduced to the beneficiaries of TBF in collaboration of TATA-AIG. Thousands of poor took part in insurance program for the first time, as the products were meeting their needs. The insurance products were designed by participatory approach. The benefits of insurance are continuously reaching the communities.
